Image Requirements and How to Size images – for website listings only.

One of the most frequent problem areas when listing artwork on art-exchange is:
“What do I have to do with these images to make them work?!”

In this post I will attempt to help you out with that problem!    There are an unlimited number of programs out there used for image editing.  They range from very pricey to free.    I’ve found that some of the free versions are a little tricker to learn. Continue reading

Cool new technology – How can it help the art industry?

You’ve seen the traditional barcodes everywhere… on the tag on your pillow, the bottom of your coffee mug, the corner of that magazine on the stand, on your can of soup, and so on.
Did you know you can even scan barcodes with your smart phone such as Iphone and Android?

There are free applications available at the various smart phone marketplaces.  Barcode Scanner ,for example, is the app I use for Android phones.  You may need to go to the market place for your phone and find one for free.  Mine might not work for your setup.
This little tool lets me scan virtually anything and learn more.   I can scan product codes and get  price match right on my cell.  I can find out if this new music CD is cheaper at the store next door too! I can find instant coupons for stores that I am near, get invited in for a free margarita when I’m within 100 yards of certain restaurants, and even scan a code in an art gallery to see more art from that artist. Acrylic Art – A call for artists

Are there many artists out there who create their wall art ON acrylic? Not “with” acrylic paints, but actually on an acrylic surface?

Recently I had a mission to find artwork for an architect firm. Although they really wanted an acrylic surface (which they have purchased in the past from us years ago), I could not find nearly enough variety on this surface.

If you are an artist who works on acrylic surfaces, please feel free to request 20 free listings on our site. You may do so by completing the contact us form, or by filling out the freebie contract at the bottom of this blog post (click here).

Artist Grants – How to Thrive (not just survive).

Did you know there is grant money out there, available to help artists with supplies, art shows, gallery shows, and additional marketing?    Some of which may even pay for your AMP services with art-exchange!

Since I am a book junkie and I am on Amazon.com nearly daily, I thought I would share a few of the titles I found on the subject!   Although I own a kindle, I find that books on  how to receive grant funds are often better in hard copy rather than digital (easier to make notes).

Clicking the images below will bring you directly to the amazon page where you can read reviews on each book.

Warning for visual artists!

This is a warning from one of the artists who reads our blog.  She had this happen to her and would like help spreading the warning !

Although her story does not refer to Art-Exchange, I would like to assure you that very few people at Art-Exchange make the calls to artists when there is work pending sale.  It is typically either me (Shannon), Beth or Richard (the owners), or Lacy (Artist Support Manager) who make those calls.  Very rarely the artist reps will want to be the ones to call you with the good news.  If you are ever in doubt that the person is actually an employee, call us at 888-361-8484   or (501) 624-1044 to verify!

Here is  Kathy’s story:
